FAA CLASS III Medical Examinations
As an FAA-certified Aviation Medical Examiner (AME) in New Hampshire, I’m proud to help non-commercial pilots, hobbyists, student pilots, and pilots who use personal planes for travel meet the health standards necessary for safe flight operation.
With a focus on personalized care and streamlined service, our goal at NH FLIGHT MD is to make the certification process smooth and stress-free for every pilot we serve.
What is an FAA Class III Medical Exam?
A Requirement to Fly
The FAA requires a Class III medical certificate for private pilots, student pilots, and recreational aviators. It ensures that pilots meet the minimum medical standards to safely operate an aircraft.
This certification focuses on general health, including vision, hearing, and cardiovascular fitness.
Why Choose NH FLIGHT MD for Your Aviation Medical Exam?
What to Expect During Your FAA Class III Medical Exam
The Class III medical exam is designed to ensure you’re fit to fly while keeping the process straightforward and efficient. Here’s what you can expect during your visit:
Review Your Medical History
You’ll complete FAA Form 8500-8, which includes questions about your medical history. Please bring a list of any medications you’re currently taking and details about previous medical treatments, if applicable.
Conduct a Physical Examination
The physical exam includes:
-
Vision Testing - Checking for visual acuity, peripheral vision, and color vision.
-
Hearing Assessment - Evaluating your ability to hear and communicate effectively.
-
Cardiovascular and General Health - Monitoring blood pressure, pulse, and overall physical well-being.
Evaluate Additional Requirements
Depending on your age or specific medical conditions, additional evaluations or documentation may be required. I’ll guide you through these steps to ensure compliance with FAA standards. If any concerns arise during the exam, we’ll discuss them with you and outline any additional steps or documentation required.
First-time applicants have a couple of additional requirements. You'll need to complete an Electronic Color Vision Test to assess distance and near vision, color vision, and peripheral vision, meeting 20/20 standards with or without correction. This test carries an additional $60 fee. If you're over 35, you'll also need a baseline Cardiovascular Assessment, including an EKG to evaluate heart health. This exam is $80 and becomes an annual requirement once you're over 40.
Complete FAA Certification
Once your exam is complete and all requirements are met, I’ll issue your FAA Class III medical certificate. In most cases, the process is completed during your visit.
